About Our Celebrity Merchandise Auctions, History.

  

(Steven), Celebrity Merchandise Auctions is my annual event it is that one event of the year that I can really get my teeth into. Though it takes a lot of time and planning to pull together, I get a lot of satisfaction out of it.

Celebrity auctions take some time to organise, not only do you first have to source the addresses for the celebs that you want to write to, but then you have to write all the letters, sign them all individually, and then envelope them all, and address and stamp them. This in itself can take two weeks or more. You then need to give the celebs 6 months to respond, as some of them may be on tour, or on location filming. So a lot of planning and organising is involved.

Our first one, we did in Blackpool, for the local Body Positive group, (HIV & AIDS) where we had donations from, Elizabeth Taylor, Denzel Washington, Jo Brand & many more.

We then moved to Dumfries, Scotland and have continued annually.

Our next was held at Wetherspoons in 2003 in aid of CLIC, (Cancer & Leukaemia in Children), then at The Cairndale hotel in 2004 for Cash for Kids, & the Toy Appeal, Dumfries. Our black book of addresses builds bigger each year, as does the event.

Due to the expense of organising and putting on this kind of event, we did not have one in 2005/6, just the writing to celebs worldwide costs up-to £200, that is before you organise the event to hold the auction, where you have the expense of the event, the posters, the auction catalogues etc. We do everything ourselves, from printing our own stationary, to typing & signing the letters to addressing and stamping them.

The local press in Dumfries are fantastic supporters of this event, giving us double page spreads in the papers, and regular advertising on the radio, without this, the event would not be so successful. Please see our gallery for a SMALL selection of items we have had donated.
